Since a lot of the scenes I am going to be filming will be taking place in the dark, (mostly in the garden where there isn't really any proper lighting available) I've decided it's probably a good idea to research how I can improve the lighting.
The camera I will be using is just a simple Canon HD camera, and I have no professional power lighting, but a few lamps and lights that I should be able to gather from around the house and borrow from friends.
I had a look at some videos and tutorials on how to make light reflectors from tin foil and cardboard, like this one here. Unfortunately I don't have any gold foil, so I'm just going to use silver foil, which should work just as well!

I've also been researching how to set up lighting properly and have found out various ways of doing it, which look relatively simple and actually possible to do.
In terms of intensity, the key light must be 100%, fill must be 50% and separation light should be 25%.
I quite like the look of the picture on the right, as it appears simple and easy to do. I will have fairy lights, lanterns and as many different types of lighting as possible, so the homemade reflector should pick these up, hopefully.
These were the lighting reflectors I made to try to improve the lighting, using tin foil and cardboard. They worked a lot better than I had first expected.

Research, Treatments & Ideas
These were the initial ideas I had for my music video. I chose 3 ideas to do and developed them into treatments and example storyboards. The first one is actually the one for Flashback by Calvin Harris! The majority of the pictures did become the real shots for my actual music video, but the swimming pool shot obviously did not.
I chose to do Flashback by Calvin Harris because my other ideas were very difficult and probably unrealistic to do. The idea with all the people dancing would be impossible to do unless I was able to get hold of a very large group of people.

This is the link to the presentation I made on Prezi.com for research into the history of music videos and the different types they may come in.

The Brief
For my G324: advanced portfolio in media, I am required to create a promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, together with two of the following three options:
(i) A website homepage for the band/artist;
(ii) A cover for its release as part of a digipak (CD/DVD package);
(iii) A magazine advertisement for the digipak (CD/DVD package).
From the options, I have chosen to create a cover for the music video's digipak, and a magazine advertisement for this digipak.
